off-season conditioning

Hey Kang Families,

Our Football Team’s partnership with the Lake Washington Track Program has been a large contributor to the success of our athletes and program.  Attached is some information regarding the speed development program that Track Coaches will be offering beginning Jan 3rd.

Speed Development, Winter, 2022

The Lake Washington Track & Field coaches are offering speed development training during January and February as part of the pre-season conditioning for the spring track season. Although the training is geared to the track athletes, the sessions are open to all serious athletes who would like to improve their speed.

Speed Development will be 3 days per week – Mondays and Thursdays on the track at 3:10, Wednesdays in the New Gym at 1:15. Sessions will be less than one hour long, except possibly on timed 40’s days. Depending on the number of participants, those days may take a few minutes longer than an hour.

The sessions will include sprint technique training, ballistic movement drills, and short sprinting. Also, all athletes will be timed electronically in the 40-yard sprint and flying 10-meter max speed every other Monday in order to track improvement.

  • There will be no formal sign-up or fee for participants. However, all that participate should make a commitment to attend as many sessions as possible if they want to see improvement in their speed and technique. You get out of training what you put into it!
  • Participants should wear a mask to all sessions which can be taken off during exercising.
  • All should dress appropriately for weather on the Monday and Thursday sessions. That includes leg covering (sweats or tights) and sweatshirt or jacket. No bare legs!
  • Running shoes or tennis shoes are appropriate footwear for Mondays and Thursdays on the track, CLEAN running shoes for the Wednesdays in the gym.

If you want to get faster, join us!
